Conducting book-related activities in office would not only make book lovers ecstatic but the group motivation can potentially push others into reading. And, reading is always good! These can also turn out to be memorable Employee Engagement events for Fridays.
Here are some book-related activities to do in the workplace:
-
Book Reviews
A theme or genre can be selected & employees who have read books of that particular genre can take reviews turn-by-turn. Each employee can be allotted a fixed time to take the review. For example, genres like ‘business’, ‘sports’, ‘fantasy fiction’ or ‘self-help’, etc. can be decided & employees can accordingly review books.
-
Book Swapping
This can turn out to be a really fun activity. Every employee is told to bring a book. Employees can start discussing & swapping books with no expectation of return. They can also write a message on the first page of the book as an inscription before swapping.
-
Book Discussion
A lot can be discussed about a single book. For this activity, a book can be picked & everyone can discuss at length regarding various aspects of that book. The discussion can turn out to be very interesting & can bring out perspectives never thought of before.
-
Favourite Quote/ Character in a Book
This becomes a more focused discussion about every employee’s favourite quote or character from different books. Even this discussion will prove to be very interesting where a lot of opinions & new ideas will be brought to light.
-
Book & Its Impact
For readers, a book might not be their favourite, but it can still have a huge impact on their thinking. This is again a very focused discussion about a book & what impact it had on their lives. Every employee can be allotted a fixed time where they can talk about a book & the practical change it brought in their life.
-
List of Top 10 Books
Each employee can think & put together a list of his/her top 10 books. Employees can then read out & discuss their list one-by-one.
Using a Digital Pinboard:
Alternatively, every activity can be done online using a digital pinboard like CircleYard. In the case of book reviews, employees can be asked to post an image of the book’s cover & their review in the description. Book swapping can be done in ‘Marketplace’ category where employees can put up their books & other employees can bid for them using their books. General book discussions & other focused discussions can also be done on CircleYard by posting images & carrying on the discussion over comments.
A distinct advantage of using CircleYard is that employees over all locations in an organization can participate in these events & know each other better.
